The silly season morphed into the scary season because on the morning of the election it looks as if some of these idiots might actually be able to take power in Washington. Truly terrifying given their patent lack of anything to offer beyond empty far-right rhetoric.
For the next few posts, I'll bring go back into election history and pull up some of the more wacko elements in the wingnut movement. But today I am starting with a democrat - because I believe in being fair and balanced.
This was truly a nomination that should never have happened. Can anyone remember back to the early primaries when an unknown, unemployed veteran - Alvin Green defeated the well established Victor Rawl in the democratic primary for US Senate in South Carolina? Now granted neither Greene nor Rawl had any real hope of beating wingnut Jim DeMint. However, Alvin Greene immediately became the butt of humor and hilarity due to his obvious lack of preparation and ability to function. The Daily Show with Jon Stewart had a field day with the nomination - and the embedded video would be absolutely hilarious if it weren't pointing to a serious problem: This is what you get when voters don't pay attention. And it was pretty obvious that they were NOT paying attention.
