You are not entitled to your own facts....
Trying to get any kind of common sense through that wall is impossible. Its as if people living in the Fox News Bubble have all bought a top-of-the-line "white noise" machine that selectively blocks out any and all facts. Daniel Patrick Moynihan was fond of pointing out "You are entitled to your own opinion, but you are not entitled to your own facts." These days the latter does not appear to be true. We are inundated political pablum on the right that appears to be 100% fact-free. Junk science abounds - with political operatives filled to the brim with all the pseudo-science the oil and gas companies could possibly provide...
A giant void of news in a 24/7 news cycle...
The fact that the top cable channels offer 24/7 "news" hasn't helped either. They are more concerned with eyeballs than something so trivial as facts. The fairness doctrine? You've got to be kidding me...Equal time for opposing views? Yes, that was once the law of the land - but no more. Bill Clinton called the 2010 election among the most "fact-free" elections ever imagined. And the irony is that it was held at a time when Americans had more information at their fingertips than ever before.
Unless we regain control of the news cycle - cable companies to become wedded to fact - not sensationalism - it will be almost impossible to change the conversation. We need another FDR - but instead, we've got Obama....
